i would think that part of it is just the normal fluctuations of uncertainty leading into opening weekend

nervousness as to how well the movie will do.  some fluctuations are to be expected,i would think.

 

after that, it's a matter of realistically trying to figure out how well a movie will do in 4 weeks before it delists.
