Once the price was allowed to move (usually midnight) more people started buying. New IPOs can be volatile in the first few days.
IPOs with a high amount of shorts tend to swing back and forth, but mostly finding new lows, rather than highs. But there's no guarantee on what will happen. Sometimes the market isn't rational, and you either have to wait it out, or try to profit off the irrationality.
