I don't have the corner of the market on good advice. I just thought it would be helpful to post some for a change.
A blanket statement regarding purchasing stock based on news given the kind of news that gets posted day to day is overall, risky. There are certainly cases for big news events that are safe investments. Big news as you have mentioned does bring a lot of [safe] reward, but one has to pick the right news to act upon. A small port person does not necessarily have the experience to know which is news that will move a stock and which is just news... Let's face it, there's a lot of junk posted in the forums. Good tidbits exist but require some sifting.
I'm just trying to offer a few pointers to the new players. I chose 10 basic tips for a specific port size. There are another 3847667 of them out there. Not all of them apply until one has money to invest, spend, flip, long term hold, day trade, and/or risk.
While I have grown to my piddly sum of 270 MIL, I have recognized 4 distinct phases. This was some of what I learned on phase 1, until 20 MIL. I am sure there are more phases to go through, but since I am not a Billion dollar port, I can only guess what that will entail. I look forward to identifying more as I go, and possibly even sharing them with others who might like to have at least one person to compare against...

A Billion does not cut it nowadays....it takes about 4B to really be "all in"...however...I agree that the smaller Nov 16, 13:31
