Speaking from someone who has actually seen the movie...

Comic book fans all over the globe are getting into Thor because of:

1. The great reviews.

2. The whole "Avengers" tie-in.

Personally, I think it will do far north of the projected $60M, possibly at the very least $70-75M, if not far higher. Remember, Iron Man wasn't as well-known as many other comic book characters, but due to the stellar reviews and brilliant casting, it did over $100M opening weekend. I think there is definitely the possibility for Thor to soar as high as that, although I would say personally the ceiling might be $90M. Take it from me though, don't underestimate the power of good reviews and great casting, in spite of the release date.

SPID3, IRONM, and IRON2 all opened the same weekend as THOR. I know tracking says 50-62 for THOR, but all of those Marvel films ... SEETVFund May 02, 17:58

Anyone know how the tracking was on those films vs what it actually did? {nm} Se7eN16 May 02, 18:05

No, FFUR5 opened the same weekend as those movie you mentioned. Next weekend is Mother's day, a traditional wasteland at the box office. BionicMoron May 02, 18:12

You have negative net worth, and haven't traded since August of last year. Who are you, really.. ? {nm} Facto May 02, 19:31

Who am I, really? is a question philosophers have been trying to answer for millennia. {nm} BionicMoron May 02, 19:49

The two HULK films, June openings in 2003 and 2008, did $62 and $55. I don't feel the first weekend of May is a guarantee of anything. second gary May 02, 18:15

Van Helsing, Mission: Impossible 3 {nm} secretstalker May 02, 18:21

The second Hulk movie was basically a 2nd intro movie just 5 years after a similar intro, and it still did well ... {nm} SEETVFund May 02, 18:26

Fantastic Four did 56OW in July; Fantastic Four 2 did 58OW in June {nm} RazorHawk May 02, 18:17

Bear in mind that ticket prices are generally higher and this one will have both IMAX and 3D prices. {nm} secretstalker May 02, 18:22

Continuing the comic book theme: SPRMN did $52M in June, BAT5 did $48M in June {nm} RogerMore May 02, 18:23

and tracking is saying high 50s (RS) and 62 (MTC) {nm} RogerMore May 02, 18:27

Those both opened on Wednesday. {nm} secretstalker May 02, 18:27

my mistake - sorry {nm} RogerMore May 02, 18:32

True, but Fast Five has it beat in most of its 14 markets. Made half the money in less than a quarter of the markets. That' smore impressive {nm} hades1088 May 02, 21:58

Can't understand the great reviews, I thought it stank. But that will help its legs {nm} numbersix_99 May 03, 00:51
