Sure: this is the number on any given film's page at Rotten Tomatoes, the "user ratings" number below the large-font percentage #.

Once last summer a few of us noted that the MTC/RS tracking numbers aligned very closely for three openers to these "user ratings" numbers.  Xiayun and Shawn had already been referring to these numbers in their prediction pages, as "flixster numbers," iirc, and I called them RT numbers.  Shawn joked back that I hadn't noticed his use of them, so now I think of them as "Shawn/RT" numbers.

That week, the number of user ratings and the tracking numbers had a 1:1000 ratio, i.e., so 5,000 users "implied" a 5M opening.  Perhaps WW or xiayun or Shawn have thought about this or studied this more carefully; I only appeal to it in a casual, joking way.  But again, the low number for TWRHS made me think it unlikely to break out in the way some supposed.

Rs mid 20s jack and Immortals. Low teens Edgar {nm}   notfabio on Nov 07, 15:53

Tagging RS: [JAJIL] [IMRTL] [HOOVR] {nm}   accountant_4_Jesus on Nov 07, 16:03

So not great news for J&J; the two trackings are close for the other two, so they could go anywhere   xiayun on Nov 07, 16:04

Is 19 far enough below mid 20s for "the rule" to kick in? {nm}   second gary on Nov 07, 17:42

It's over 25%, so could be considered significant, especially with MTC being lower {nm}   xiayun on Nov 07, 18:03

sorry actually 24% {nm}   xiayun on Nov 07, 18:03

The Shawn/RT-Flixster number for JAJIL is low, too: 4.9k. {nm}   second gary on Nov 07, 18:08

It's been low for pretty much everything recently (even adjusting for movies coming in for OW lower than expected). Maybe less traffic {nm}   GMov on Nov 07, 18:11

I think the number for HAKU3 was ballparky, around 13k-15k. The TWRHS number was under 10k. {nm}   second gary on Nov 07, 18:14

So is this just saying that we can't be 100% sure using this method? {nm}   accountant_4_Jesus on Nov 07, 18:21

Well, this "method" began as a coincidence group one week in the summer and a lark. But last week I felt my own suspicions about TWRHS...   second gary on Nov 07, 18:29

Ah, I see. Is there any way to actually get those figures for myself (and do some "research" on future movies using that method)? {nm}   accountant_4_Jesus on Nov 07, 19:04

Thanks for that, Gary. I'll have a play around with it. {nm}   accountant_4_Jesus on Nov 07, 22:29

So why did it go up $5 after I left my computer? {nm}   TheWeekendWarrior on Nov 07, 19:28

RS numbers. {nm}   accountant_4_Jesus on Nov 07, 19:57

But MTC is below RS and according to xiayun, that's bad. {nm}   TheWeekendWarrior on Nov 07, 20:15

Yes, but RS numbers were posted *after* MTC. {nm}   accountant_4_Jesus on Nov 07, 20:31

Now it's going back down accordingly. {nm}   Jay_Beezy on Nov 08, 04:01
