Got tired of typing on a phone, but I'll add about those...

Rent - its definitely the biggest flop of the long runners in the last 10 years, but it was widely panned and simply doesn't translate to film like most others. The shows more rock concert than musical from what I could tell, and just doesn't have the same power as seeing people live.

Rock of ages - it had the star power, but was critically panned, comes from a younger musical, and was released at a poor time, it felt like a good mid fall release when things are slower, but I enjoyed it alright

Producers - another critically panned movie, and was never given a chance at a really wide release anyway, so we don't know full potential.

Phantom of the opera - this one had a middling critical reception and a cast of virtual no names, not to mention most couldn't sing their parts very well. It also did not have a full wide release, so we don't know the full potential. Box office wasn't terrible, though, at over 50m. Sweeney todd had a similar release, albeit with real star power.
