As you may know, we have a weekly movie poll in which we share what films we saw and what we thought of them. I kept track of the grades given to films that received a 2012 North American theatrical or direct-to-video release, and ranked them, converting the letter grades you gave into points (A+=11, A=10, A-=9 etc... to D=1, D-=0, and F=-1). *Festival films and others with no discernable release were not included; I saved those grades should they be released in 2013.
252 films received at least one grade. For this recap, I ranked films that received 4 or more grades. There were 80 such films. Here is how they rank, with their average score.

2010 206 films receieved grades. 569 votes in total were given for an average grade of 6.622
2011 229 films receieved grades. 913 votes in total were given for an average grade of 6.372
2012 252 films receieved grades. 917 votes in total were given for an average grade of 6.741
so a 4% drop in quality for 2011 compared to 2010, and there was a 4% drop in box office. then a 6% increase in quality for 2012 compared to 2011, and there was a 6.5% increase in box office. Yes, this is a very small sample, but to see quality vs revenue matchup is intriguing.
interesting also is that despite us being movie geeks, that we *only* saw 252 films. BOM tracked 655 theatrical releases alone. Lots of movies we haven't seen yet. Highest grossing film we didnt see: Think Like A Man with $91M. Meeting Evil was the lowest grosser to receive a vote ($525.00, B+)
My personal top 10: (though I havent seen a lot yet)
Goon A
Moonrise Kingdom A-
Chronicle A-
Battleship A-
The Odd Life/Timothy Green A-
Project X B+
Cloud Atlas B+
Resident Evil: Retribution B+
Lincoln B+
21 Jump Street B+
