If they can't put it together with Depp and Rush, for reasonable salary costs, they'll probably announce a reboot and that'll be guaranteed huge bucks too, certainly more than a $30M OW. Arguably Depp's had his run and it's time to do that anyway. His last few projects have hardly soared at the box office.
No doubt "dormant" projects go down somewhat but there's risk for shorters when a stock is obviously underpriced and likely to get made. It bounces up periodically, and when the almost inevitiable announcement it's happening in this case comes, the shorters had better be living here because it'll quickly skyrocket and may well wipe out whatever they think they're making by shorting now.
