some random box office thoughts...
47 Meters Down going to end up making $40M on a $5M budget... the trailer looked so bad, yet that return is crazy. did not see that coming.
The Big Sick may end up having enough momentum to end up outgrossing The House... nobody saw that coming.
as seen in the numbers early on, looks like Wonder Woman will now easily surpass Guardians for #1 Film of the Summer, but does it have enough juice to touch $400M?
despite Despicable Me 3 being profitable, the 2nd weekend fell over 53%. put into perspective that #2 opened on a Wednesday and still had nearly $10M more in its 2nd weekend. it also was in over 500 less theaters and a drop of only 47%. that puts the per theater average at nearly $3500 more than #3. shows DM3 will probably gross nearly $100M less than it's predecessor (and $270M won't be easy).
Baby Driver had a great drop this weekend considering the competition it's facing right now. looks like it can move past $80M, which is excellent for a film like this.
why did All Eyez on Me cost $40M to make? no star power, no CGI or big budget stunts? seems like this one should have been $20M or less?

I think All Eyez cost so much because of music licensing fees. SOC didn't have that issue. Tupac music isn't cheap. {nm} Jul 09, 11:01
