It has been shrinking faster for physical media (about a week per year) than it has been for digital (about half a week per year)

At most it'll be 5 years to hit 2 month windows (assuming there even is physical media at that point).

Through weekend 23, we're now tied with the 2nd best yearly gross ever and only 6% off the top grossing year Moviesnob Jun 09, 16:57

is there a list for year-by-year adjusted for inflation? i'd like to see how the recent years stack up against 82-86 {nm} professor zovek Jun 09, 17:21

not year to date {nm} Moviesnob Jun 09, 17:24

Not really. Box Office Mojo still has us at 6 percent behind last year.. Even behind 2017, and that was with "Avengers" (link inside) VictorY Jun 09, 17:34

Box Office Mojo link. VictorY Jun 09, 17:35

So, movie theaters are still doing business. Imagine that. But it will be interesting to see what streaming does to us or if the windows get Catzan Jun 09, 17:52

its becoming more and more top heavy and when the windows shorten, it'll be even more top heavy {nm} Moviesnob Jun 09, 19:22

it'll accelerate once all the studios start producing content direct to their streaming platform Moviesnob Jun 10, 02:46

Disney hasn't changed their stance on mega-tentpoles, but in press comments they have said they will look at windows for smaller films. notfabio Jun 10, 08:17

whats a smaller release for Disney these days? Natureverse isnt going theatrical anymore so I guess $100m budgeted ARTEMIS FOWL? {nm} Moviesnob Jun 10, 08:30

100 million for a single film is out of Disney+ budget range. From what I have heard up to up to 80 million? notfabio Jun 10, 08:40

That said they are paying 90-100 million for The Mandalorian but that's over 7-8 episodes {nm} notfabio Jun 10, 08:42

They just bought a whole studio that makes plenty of smaller films (whether they're small on purpose is another story) {nm} benz0 Jun 10, 14:11

fox movies will mostly end up on Hulu {nm} Moviesnob Jun 10, 15:07

That's an incredible comeback from a horrid first quarter. With big titles yet to come, 2019 will be number one. {nm} PhoneHome Jun 10, 06:19

Yep. However, this could be last "big year" for awhile. {nm} Moviesnob Jun 10, 07:35

Iger and his bonuses! {nm} notfabio Jun 10, 09:20
