from the "Story of Marvel Studios" book...(love that gift from my wife and I'm still in the middle of Volume 2)

  • They were interested in both Scarlett and Emily from the beginning.
  • They met with Scarlett first.  She had done some reading up and mentioned an interest in Wasp and Blonde Phantom (who ?) as well as Black Widow.
  • The studio looked at the multi-film commitment the role needed and at Scarlett's already busy schedule, and thought it was impossible logistically.  That's when they made the offer to Emily.  This was before they got into the habit of telling actors the multi-film commitment up front and letting them turn it down if they wanted.
  • Scarlett was disappointed and impulsively dyed her hair red, thinking she had been known as a blonde actress for too long.
  • Emily turned it down because she had other film commitments, like Gulliver's Travels which was mentioned by bsbbtnh.
  • Back they went to Scarlett, and to their surprise her hair was now red...lol
