He's exaggerating. It was an individual theater, not a chain.
And he's continuing to do harm to the movie by placing all the blame on straight people not wanting to see the movie as the reason it underperformed. It made under $5M, which means ~500K people bought tickets to it. The gay community didn't come out to support it in huge numbers, either. It was horribly marketed and he and Universal need to take a hard look at themselves rather than exclusively blaming homophobia and disinterest in gay subject matter for the movie's underperformance. You can't just tell people how "important" a movie is without telling them what the movie itself has to offer from an entertainment perspective.

If so, it was not a theatre in a major chain. The major chains closely control the trailers run in their shows, likely with Oct 03, 02:36
