Expecting Blanchett to be at a similar level to those two if not higher. She ought to have been nominated for Where'd You Go To Bernadette 3 years back but wasn't, I guess because she had so many noms/awards already. That might work against her this time too (in terms of winning, nom is 100%). Incidentally Tang Wei's role of a Chinese speaker who's not totally comfortable speaking Korean, mirrors her personal life (after marrying a Korean director few years back) so perhaps she had an unfair advantage (or maybe it was written into the role for her). She doesn't seem to have any awards buzz though, might not even get nominated.
I hope recognition of world cinema & talent improves (in terms of awards) when people realise 3 of the best acting performances this past year are from a Hong Kong, Malaysian & an Australian actress (albeit Aussies have been recognized before). We've recognised global Directing auteurs for a long while but not neccesarily acting talent outside of western Europe/English speaking countries.
