It feels like MI7 has been forgotten at this point. It seems like an afterthought, which is a shame. Lesson learned.....

Execs should be sitting around for the next few weeks contemplating this. Once last weekend came and went, Mission just disappeared. It's all Barbie all the time, with some Oppenheimer thrown in. Not a great look for Cruise's movie.

I'm sure that once we get well into August and summer is finally wrapping up, MI should be able to bag some more IMAX time; but it's all over but the shouting at that point.

I am interested in seeing how the next 6 weeks play out to Labor Day Weekend. The biggest surprise to me is that MI didn't do nearly as well as most thought it would do; particularly after INDY flamed out. It seemed ripe for a big success, but that just shows you how little to NO impact Top Gun had on this movie's strength at the box office. Zero. There were many people predicting huge business for this Mission movie, and it obviously didn't come anywhere close to happening. Barbie is passing it in what a couple of days from release, if that? Crazy.

I feel bad for Mission Impossible AND Indy. I was entertained by both. I did think MI is a better overall film, but I had a huge smile on my face during parts of Indy as well; it was by no means a fail. It was a nice send off for Harrison. At the end of the day I just don't think the younger crowd cares in the least about Indiana Jones. It's over. It's old. I'm old. That's life.

I don't know what happened to this Mission movie. It's a very strong entertainment. It feels like it simply got run over by this juggernaut as much as anything else. I expect it will do very well in the TV world in the aftermarket; perhaps that will make the next one perform better...

DL Too Early Update: 68-70 BARBIE Friday (with previews) 150+ 3 day, rival studios see $165-170. notfabio Jul 21, 13:55

Oppenheimer 32 million Friday (with previews) 75+ million 3 day. {nm} notfabio Jul 21, 13:56

arguably as impressive as Barbie given the runtime and subject matter {nm} my mate paul Jul 21, 14:39

(basically as much in 3 days as MI7 did in five) {nm} my mate paul Jul 21, 14:40

Ethan Hunt & Barbie have to BUILD a bomb to stop child trafficking. Top grossing film of all time! notfabio Jul 21, 14:45

That idea needs some Magruber. {nm} Initech Jul 21, 15:10

It is, arguably there's no way Oppenheimer would have done it without the Barbenheimer effect. {nm} notfabio Jul 21, 14:46

Let's say 300,000 x $15 avg tix = $4.5M {nm} Antibody Jul 21, 14:49

Oops, the AMC was only 60,000. Make that 100,000 for all chains x $15 = $1.5M. {nm} Antibody Jul 21, 14:52

It's the related excitement and buzz that having the two linked over people who actually did it and Uni didn't have to pay anything for it. {nm} notfabio Jul 21, 14:55

for sure (whoever didn’t blink, give ‘em a bonus) {nm} my mate paul Jul 21, 14:51

THR 1:30 p.m.: Updated BARBI $150 million to $160 million ; OPPHMR $75 million Antibody Jul 21, 14:33

will be interesting to see if the Oppenheimer IMAX run gets more than its two-guaranteed weeks (sorry Tom) {nm} my mate paul Jul 21, 14:53
