Not as bullish on Origin or Ezra...
Origin is a well-written and directed movie with a terrific cast but it was pretty difficult to get my head around, because it literally felt like a movie about a woman writing a book (because that's what it is)... feels more in line with DuVernay's doc The 13th than Selma... I just don't think it was a good buy for NEON even compared to American Fiction (which has more populist elements that would make it easier to sell).
Ezra is another TIFF movie that seems like it should have debuted at Sundance (felt the same about American Fiction, actually).
So far, The Holdovers, Flora and Son and Next Goal Wins are my three faves, I think.
I'm sure someone else will compile the OMGWTFLOLBBQ reactions to NGWIN, which just premiered at TIFF... Sep 10, 19:48
Having seen Alexander Payne's The Holdovers, I think it's a REAL player in the Oscar race Sep 10, 19:51

I mean, "Best effort since Nebraska" just means it was better than the terrible Downsizing... {nm} Sep 11, 11:52
