Here's an original film. The vision of Coogler, and not some IP that someone grafts their stuff on to. That he was given the money to make this film is wonderful; kudos to Warner Brothers for investing in the movie. I hope it pays off. I'm certainly going back to see it again; saw it solo today and can't wait to take my wife to see it.
And if you truly love music, the film is a love letter to not just the blues, but the history of urban and international music, as well as the history of American music. Wow.
Wildly entertaining; I wouldn't expect to see a more entertaining original studio movie all year. Looking at the story telling chops of this "genre" movie, i guess it's only mildly puzzling that wasn't released in the fall; it's certainly great enough to be part of any end of the year awards conversation. I guess at the end of the day, the horror element keeps it from that. Stupid, but it is what it is.
Very excited walking out of the theater; the crowd at the Irvine IMAX at it up. Loved it.
