The ideas that pour out of or come from genre tropes remind me of the Coen Brothers. Or a Tarantino in how it surprises.
My wife thought the film could've come from the same cloth as Miller's Crossing, and then turned around thinking about the incredible music in the film and mentioned O Brother; on the surface you couldn't get two films further apart, but those came from the same artistic vision, and I think i understand it. True, this film has some of the best use of music i've seen in a very, very long time, and you definitely do not see where this movie is going to go if you go into it blind (which it sounds like you wouldn't be); this is what felt most like a Quentin movie to me.
Sinners is a tremendous film; go see it on the largest screen with the best sound possible. A wildly entertaining movie! Apr 20, 16:07
