Yep, that's what you get when you are a smoker. My father is the same, in and out of hospital lately.
My father's in is mid 80's so just about as old as Spock. But living to your mid 80s is not that bad. However I think it's about quality of life in your final years.

According to the article, Nimoy stopped smoking 30 years ago. Just goes to show the damage is permanent even if you stop. {nm} Feb 06, 08:01
