Normal trader instincts. I caught daveart's post within a minute, looked up the security, saw D Mac's (antibody's) comment and also noticed
that the bond was down about 10 cents or perhaps as much as 16 cents.
Going against instinct, kinda, I started checking what his next movie was. He was about 10 points above TAG and for good reason, so if the news were indeed fake, it would be lost chuckage. I hesitated a bit, a minute or two, while checking these things, decided to flip (I was holding long), but by then it was halted, and the news confirmed.
So if I had had sharper instincts tonight, I would've flipped immediately. Chuckage is way less of a downside than there would've been an upside if it was true.
So, while this is subjective to each individual, I'd say that there's a difference between trader instinct and personal feelings.
As soon as it hit me that this icon was actually deceased, and tragically so, it made me sadder than most such (comparable) celebrity news. I am sad as I write and think about this, too. Williams was a brilliant, sensitive man.
We've lost too many great ones this last year or so.
