thanks for the clarification.  the example i used, his role was announced via promo photos but probably only for the benefit of harry potter super fans.  based on from what i remember in the book, his role is small but significant to the plot.  i'm guessing the water gets a lil murky with movies with a big cult following because there are so much promotional material about the smallest details kicked out over time to keep people happy.
