2012 National Defense Appropriations Act has it's roots in slavery, the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798, the Sedition Act of 1918, and so many supreme court rulings from Dredd Scott to Korematsu v. United States and created entire generations of hyphenated Americans.
It would be nice to see a list of words and expressions created by Congress to explain which ones fall against this new law. The general idea is that people know which actions fall against this law, but with so many phantom terrorists and patsies being created to appease national fears, it's understandable why so many Americans have justifiable reason to be afraid.
In some communities, having your cell phone on the front seat is justifiable cause for a pat down and search during a traffic stop using the logic that drug dealers use cell phones to meet contacts and make illegal transactions. And in others, skin color still plays a major role when it comes to suspicion and detention.
It's unacceptable for some that there's still a mugger, rapist or vandal roaming free in this country. An in the pursuit of perfection, multiple victims have spent time in jail when new evidence is made public in the final hours of their trials. Everything from hearsay, fingerprints and DNA has all been manufactured to sentence people to prison, torture and death.
Too many times law enforcement breaks the rules so that they can get paid under the guise of public safety and assurance. For months at times these stories fill the news casts day in and day out. Millions of dollars are spent first incarcerating the wrong individual knowingly. And later when truth is giving it's light, more millions are spent to set them free. Some times this happened to late. Either after death or execution.
I'm all for public safety and National Security, but there are reasonable limits. The law is fine, but there's confusion on what Congress wants us to do as citizens. They already tell us how to raise our kids and run our family. They tell us what we can and can not eat. They even tell us who we can associate with and convince us what we should believe.
Small infractions have and will lead to major mistrusts of government. And small actions can and will lead to our demise. Division is one of those small infractions. Throughout history laws are created to protect the people and intern harsh reactions. In that air, the 2012 National Defense Appropriations Act goes against itself. With government spreading fears with distorted laws that are interpreted differently by each resident.
Throughout the millennia, it are these governments that cause collapse with unsound policy regarding it's people and resources. Even when they see that, they boisterously head in the wrong direction eventually fulfilling the prophecy. From the Mayans, to the Romans, to Iraq and Afghanistan, current history gives evidence and causes for great concern. It may be just a matter of time before it's our turn to fall.
The one difference is that our government comes from the people and is freely elected. And when that form of governance fails, when those people are crushed and oppressed by their enemies, and captors, there will be no hope for any survivors. Watch your step, it's always been a matter of time. For one day it will be used to destory the front runner again.
Happy Holidays!
