Note: this is not a review or commentary of the film itself (which I have not seen). I have posted this here instead of the Movies board because I am not discussing the movie or the quality of the film itself.
Ā
... I'm going to get a refund for my HFR IMAX tickets. Since the Hobbit review embargo was lifted last night, I have seen many reviews panning the HFR presentation, while praising the "normal" or "normal 3D" version of the movie.
I think I would prefer my first viewing of this movie to be an enjoyable one, and as I am taking along friends and family who would normally not go see this type of film, I would like their experience to be enjoyable and as non-distracting by the presentation itself of the material as possible. The movie should stand on its own, and not be handicapped by it's presentation (Clash of the Titans 3D post-convert, anyone?)
If I enjoy The Hobbit enough the 1st time, I may go see it in HFR later on to see what that is all about, but there are simply too many people panning the format (and in a significant manner - not just calling it a gimmick or badly done) to potentially diminish my potential enjoyment of the first viewing of the film.
Any other thoughts?
