Yeah, Showtime has a movie lineup that is very strange. As in like, terrible. But some of their shows have been very well done.
1st and 3rd season of Homeland were excellent (in my opinion). First 2 seasons of Weeds. House of Lies is alternately great and terrible. I really liked Ray Donovan. And a hidden gem was Sleeper Cell. In fact, I feel like it was ahead of it's time since, as far as I know, it's the only major show that released their entire season at the same time (season 2).
Anyway, I get what you're saying about not trusting horror on tv. I don't either (or in movies usually for that matter), but I am eternally optimistic that the "next one" will be great. When the audience is starving, which we are, we gotta be optimistic. At least I am.
