Nah. Demonstrably. Unless you can explain why the gun homicide rate in the United States is so much higher than in other developed countries

Posted by: RogerMore on Jun 11, 18:16 in response to DTravel's post Quibble, "its perceived to be safer".

And by higher, I mean 7x higher than in Canada, 13x Germany, 27x Australia, 90x the UK, etc. Prsonally, I think it's pretty clear of the easy access that bad people have to guns. Feel free to provide an alternative explanation.

Also I agree with Ben Franklin - gun control opens up a lot of freedoms in society, like the freedom to not get shot. And yet people want to trade that for the security of owning a gun.

Since Sandy Hook In 2012 There Have Been 74 School Shootings In The USA. HP Link. RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 10, 22:06

This is like porn to you? You get off on shootings and your hatred of US? islander Jun 11, 05:17

What are you doing to Change Gun Violence in the USA? {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 11, 05:26

Me? I haven't shot anyone and have no plans to ever do so. You seem to be obsessed with gun violence. Do we need to worry about you? {nm} islander Jun 11, 07:25

With great power comes great responsibility. I've often wondered if the anti-gunners project distrust of their own self-control, on others. {nm} edzep - Port Monkey! Jun 11, 11:28

If that's what you really wonder, then I don't think you understand the gun control point of view. RogerMore Jun 11, 12:56

I do get the rationals you state. But, you can never magic wand guns away, and, particularly, away from criminals. edzep - Port Monkey! Jun 11, 13:08

It doesn't take a magic wand, just better policies and patience. The death rate from car accidents has been reduced thanks to a range of RogerMore Jun 11, 13:31

very tragic story. sorry for them loss of your friends. {nm} lobogotti Jun 11, 16:53

thank you. its been twenty years almost so i dont dwell on it, but I never forget them. Keith and Ann. {nm} Moviesnob Jun 12, 01:04

Kinda late, sorry. Roger, I have mixed feelings... islander Jun 12, 07:15

As a Canadian, Don't Understand this Owning-A-Gun with Having Freedom. <More Inside>. RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 12, 07:48

there is no way to go from 11,000 to 0. so what would be an acceptable number to you? 8000, 5000? islander Jun 12, 08:08

How about Implementing Background Checks & Restricting some Weapons - see what happens. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2014 Jun 12, 09:42

Ok Roto, right this second or can I do it after work? Anyways, what's your reasoning for posting every murder, stat?... islander Jun 12, 10:30

I would focus less on unrealistic all-or-nothing outcomes - "We'll never get to zero, so what's the point in doing anything?" - and more on RogerMore Jun 12, 12:18

Roger, how DARE you bring any kind of rational discussion into this? Also, +1 for post of the year. {nm} BSmurf Jun 12, 12:24

RM, thanks, now I've got 2 Canadians telling *me* to fix gun crime in the US. Lets do everything you mentioned... islander Jun 12, 13:58

I'm just setting out why America doing nothing is not the best option, and what I see as a possible way forward. I'm not telling you RogerMore Jun 12, 14:57

No one here has ever said "do nothing" (at least seriously, my comment was snark, sorry), at least AFAIK. {nm} islander Jun 12, 15:28

I don't believe that's the case. There are plenty of people who have advocated doing nothing, for lots of reasons. RogerMore Jun 13, 07:51

Roger, you mentioned car deaths reduced by half in the last 30 years. Do you realize gun homicides have dropped by half in the last 20? islander Jun 13, 09:40

Serious question - is there anything in my posts that suggests I'm buying into hysteria? Because you keep returning to this point, while RogerMore Jun 13, 13:04

Gun control and gun elimination are not the same thing. How is making guns harder to get a bad thing? {nm} lapuckfan Jun 12, 08:15

Actually it was Abbie Hoffman back in the '60 s who originated the quote. McClane was quoting Hoffman. StarBond Fund Jun 11, 10:38

Depends on your definition of "school shooting". Since most think of Sandy Hook style massacre, the stat is false. edzep - Port Monkey! Jun 11, 05:57

(1) a shooting; (2) at a school. it's totally accurate {nm} charlie Jun 11, 10:00

139,900 schools where there were no shootings. Report that. {nm} islander Jun 11, 10:37

Accurate, yet, deceptive. They want people to read the headline, and 'understand' there were 'that many' more massacres. edzep - Port Monkey! Jun 11, 15:39
