CBSS: Giancarlo Stanton to sgin the biggest sports contract ever: $325 million over a record 13 years Antibody Nov 17, 12:29

Nothing could possibly go wrong {nm} A-Rod Nov 17, 14:18

Ridiculous - when has one of these deals every worked for the team? {nm} JDolphin Nov 17, 15:35

Really - this Deal could put his Team Over-The-Top - just like mine did for the New York Islanders. {nm} Alexei Yashin Nov 17, 15:59

you're asking when a free agent ever helped a team to success? If you're complaining about the size of the deal, that was his market value Moviesnob Nov 17, 16:45

I'm talking about spending all your money on 1 player. It takes more than 1 player to win a game JDolphin Nov 17, 22:15

thats a fair point but we dont know what the marlins budget is. they may radically increase it. {nm} Moviesnob Nov 18, 10:22

and Stanton's deal is backloaded, so the marlins can put a team around him without greatly increasing their budget Moviesnob Nov 18, 10:43

Wow, that's the most backloaded contract I've ever seen. Ok with this setup, it could work - until he doesn't opt out in year 7, but they JDolphin Nov 18, 14:01

ESPN: Why Stanton is worth $300 million Antibody Nov 17, 16:15

But not Worth 325 MILL apparently. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2014 Nov 17, 17:31

You have to pay to read the actual reasons - but nobody is worth 300 million, unless it's incentive based and they really earn it each year {nm} JDolphin Nov 17, 22:24

Basically, he's worth it because he's only 25. {nm} Antibody Nov 18, 11:25

that might be a reason for a 6-7 yr contract but not 13. {nm} JDolphin Nov 18, 14:03

which is likely why they put in an opt-out clause after 6 years {nm} charlie Nov 18, 14:12

I've only read that Stanton can opt out not the team JDolphin Nov 18, 17:30

That would only bring him to 31/32, the age when Pujols/Cabrera/Cano got their 10 year contract. Marlins lock him down at a better value. {nm} Antibody Nov 18, 15:24

I wouldn't have given them 10 yr contracts either. if a player ever stays with a team thru the contract we'll see, but I still think it's JDolphin Nov 18, 17:43
