looks like you are trying to say if once is in a range of cells and I don't think you can do that using the range name - see my way inside
You can use a formula to see if a value is in a range of cells
=COUNTIF(G$1:G$10,A2)
This formula counts the number of times a value is found in a group of cells
G$1:G$10 is the range your looking in (you might be able to substitute the range name here. I don't use range names much)
A2 is the cell you want to change color
Don't use $ in the A2 as you want that to change when you copy the format to all the other cells (which Excel nicely does automatically)
For Conditional Formating you want the result of the formula to be true of false (1 or 0 works as well). True applies formatting, false doesn't.
Go to Conditional Formating In the Format menu
For condition, select 'Formula is'
enter formula in box (be sure the = is at the front of the formula)
select format
click ok
You can do this for 3 conditions, so create a range for in top 5, released out of top 5
I have done this on Excel 2003 and I think I used the spreadsheet on a computer with 2007 and don't remember a problem
