Becoming the disconnected, condescending elite which lost touch with the concerns of the very people it was supposed to serve and defend. Meaningless to most Americans it smacked of soulless globalism. The response from Washington barely resonated outside of the Beltway. It is difficult to even be on the same wavelength.
