The United States has not won a war in more than seven decades. Instead, we have settled for a series of vague draws with ragtag irregulars

from one side of the globe to the other, despite enormous taxpayer-funded resources.  For our current military, pummelling Grenada counts as a career highlight. We have more corrupt naval officers than warships able to avoid low-speed collisions with lumbering cargo ships.  The Air Force botches simple paperwork to enable a mass murderer and often appears to be a superstitious cult.  We increasingly rely on mercenaries.   Bin laden taunted us for a decade before we finally caught him.

Spare us the chest-beating about our military, which is far more money than manpower.  When we stopped getting a cross-section of society through the draft, our military began to decline.

Another week, another mass shooting. Antibody Nov 14, 15:34

it's not a gun. I own guns. I take my kids shooting. It's the person. I have the right to bear arms, and I will protect my son if I have to. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 14, 21:29

You're right, it's not the gun. It's the easy access to guns. But as long as people believe the 2nd amendment allows them to hold arsenals, dubord.s Nov 15, 08:00

You're right. take away all the guns, even law enforcement, and the military. No country would ever dare attack us. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 11:16

When the snapback against gun nuttery occurs, I hope it doesn't diminish entitlement to own a reasonable firearm for self-protection in the DTXbro Nov 15, 11:58

If you delegate your home and family safety to someone else, you will be sadly disappointed with the results. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 12:03

If you rely on recent-vintage right-wing gun kookery, you are destined to be dissatisfied and disarmed. Keep pushing, and the snapback will DTXbro Nov 15, 13:05

Rural,left-behind men fetishize guns to compensate for insecurity about manhood, marketable skills, education, accomplishment, and the like. DTXbro Nov 16, 05:41

Loved your new book ..... "101 ways how to loose friends and irritate people". Congrats. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 16, 10:41

'LOSE' not 'LOOSE'. Playing LOOSE with the English Language again. {nm} Captain Obvious Nov 16, 15:58

Last time the US had to defend itself against another nation on its own soil: Canada rebuffed your own attacks & burnt down the White House {nm} dubord.s Nov 15, 13:33

and we learned that defense strategy was lacking, and made vast improvements in capabilities since then. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 13:36

Yet we haven't changed ours, and we haven't been attacked. Nor do we have mass shootings. Imagine that. {nm} dubord.s Nov 15, 13:39

I congratulate you and your country on both its beauty and its civility. If I move to a deserted island, bet there is no crime there either. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 13:47

FYI - Our deserted island has almost 40M people, including a city the size of Philly/Boston (7M). But with less guns. {nm} dubord.s Nov 15, 14:12

so everyone is happy where they are, right? If not, then they can move somewhere else. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 22:04

same response as posted above. If that's what they want, good for them. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 22:06

Australia's Lessons on Gun Control: The 1996 Port Arthur massacre resulted in legislation that saw a dramatic decline in gun crimes. Antibody Nov 15, 14:19

8 years of neglect can do that to a military. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 16, 10:44

So the last "7 decades" can be blamed on the last "8 years of neglect". Great logic. {nm} dubord.s Nov 16, 14:06

DTXbro failed to count the war in Iraq. TJNFL1 Nov 16, 14:41

Be more understanding; he may be doing the best he can with a backwater religious school education.{nm} DTXbro Nov 16, 14:54

Everyone is religious, or has their own religion. Even being a humanist or an atheist is a type of religion. Congrats on whatever yours is. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 16, 15:10

Calling COMPLETE BULLSH*T - there are Hundreds of Millions of People that are Religion-Free. {nm} Captain Obvious Nov 16, 16:06

Religion is the belief in something. Everyone believes in something. If not, they would follow the atheist religion. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 16, 16:17

Freedom-From-Religion is an Established Principle for Hundreds of Millions of People. Captain Obvious Nov 16, 16:56

Again, mass shooting do not happen repeatedly anywhere else in the world. {nm} Antibody Nov 15, 11:39

taking away guns, leaves more victims to cower in fear and await their demise. Unlawfuls will always have their guns. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 11:51

Yet, the opposite has been proven true in every other First World country. But ya, that theory must be right. {nm} dubord.s Nov 15, 13:34

bahhhhhh {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 13:38

One of your most intelligent arguments to date. {nm} dubord.s Nov 15, 13:40

Thank you sir. People wanting to remain victims is unnecessary, but I digress.{nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 13:45

We just know the difference between irrational fear, and things that should be feared (climate change for example...) {nm} dubord.s Nov 15, 14:13

NYT: The only variable that can explain the high rate of mass shootings in America is its astronomical number of guns. Antibody Nov 15, 09:45

the only thing that keeps a home invasion from happening is the possibility that the home is being defended by a gun owner {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 11:08

You can keep your handguns, but there are no civilian purpose for military guns like AR-15. {nm} Antibody Nov 15, 11:37

Did you get some post death interview with the nut job disclosing his humble aggression limits? {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 13:33

There wouldn't have been a mass shooting at the church in the first place if he didn't have a semi-automatic gun. {nm} Antibody Nov 15, 11:54

There wouldn't have been a mass shooting at the church in the first place if there were church goers out front waiting with AR-15's. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 12:06

Just a handgun would do. {nm} Antibody Nov 15, 12:22

A handgun against an AR-15? You can fight that battle if you want. Good luck. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 13:40

Thanks for allowing me to defend my own home and family. Now let me defend it with as much fire power as the gangs and cartels please. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 11:55

Why would you need protection from gangs and cartels? Are you dealing drugs? {nm} Antibody Nov 15, 11:57

Glad the gangs and cartels care so much about innocent bystanders. Makes me feel so much safer. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 12:12

You are more likely to get shoot by a mass murderer or domestic violence than by gangs and cartels. {nm} Antibody Nov 15, 12:19

Is that supposed to be encouraging? {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 13:51

This idea that civilians are entitled to possess heavy-duty firepower, and to carry guns wherever they wish, is recent and dopey. It seems DTXbro Nov 15, 12:02

Trust but verify. If you can get all the criminals to put down their arms first, it might make your argument a bit more persuasive. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 12:15

Unless the GOP perfects a machine that mass-produces half-educated, broadly intolerant, easily frightened, rural, selfish, superstitious, DTXbro Nov 15, 13:10

Easily frightened? You're the one hiding in a corner when someone shoots. No oposition to background checks or registration. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 13:57

Look up Home Invasion rates in other countries where guns aren't readily available. Clearly, that's not the deterrent. {nm} dubord.s Nov 15, 13:37

Look up how many times some of those countries have been invaded and taken over by another country. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 14:01

Great point. All those EU countries better start arming themselves against each other before the Ottomans or Huns march in. {nm} dubord.s Nov 15, 14:15

By that logic, I guess every country should be stocking up, given invasions have been by the US more often than anyone else dubord.s Nov 15, 14:40

Believe the point is that many countries and individuals are allowed to make their own choice. {nm} TJNFL1 Nov 15, 22:10

The point remains: The only variable that can explain the high rate of mass shootings in America is its astronomical number of guns. {nm} Antibody Nov 15, 23:59
