As I recall, that sort is set by a tag in the URL. Don't know if there's a secondary cookie. Other sorts with column data are set with
cookies, only. I wonder if it relates to how you're now logging in... like, maybe using the shortcut URL (to help handle the frequent logouts) negates the sort. If you have been logging in with the shortcut URL, try setting your sort, then, on your next login, try doing it normally, to see if the sort sticks.
