Francis Ford Coppola began his jaunt into the entertainment industry as Roger Corman's right-hand man on his films. In 1970, Coppola first received his first taste of fame and success when he won an Oscar for the script for Patton. In 1972, Coppola directed The Godfather, which went on to become one of the biggest critical and commercial hits of all time. The movie was followed by its sequel which also became a monster hit and earned six Academy Awards. In 1979, Coppola took on his most ambitious endeavor to date with Apocalpse Now. In addition to his success as a director, Coppola has produced a number of movie classics as well.
