An all-star cast is coming together for the Chinese production of the Qin Dynasty epic Hero. Jet Li plays the bodyguard for the King of Qin, while Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi play the three assassins sent to kill him. Zhang Yimou (Raise the Red Lantern) will direct the $17 million production, which has the full-backing of the Chinese government.
Li almost starred in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with Zhang until he opted out to do Romeo Must Die. The first Emperor of China has been the subject of numerous films, most recently in 1999's The Emperor and the Assassin which starred Gong Li and was directed by Chen Kaige.
