The Hungarian noir thriller Kontroll was the biggest box office film in its native country. Director Nimrod Antal tells the fast paced tale of ticket collectors in the Budapest subway system as they deal with rag tag characters and a killer who pushes people in front of speeding trains. The film provides a rich social portrait of the changing face of the country. Kontroll was the first Hungarian film to screen at Cannes in 20 years and played in the Midnight Madness section of the 2004 Toronto Film Festival.
