The story tells of Helen MacFarquhar (Kate Capshaw), a bookstore manager who leaves the hustle and bustle of New York City to return to her sleepy New England hometown. Unexpectedly, one mysterious love note has the power to unlock some startling secrets, changing the lives of everyone it touches. Featured among the ensemble are Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Selleck, Tom Everett Scott, Blythe Danner, Gloria Stuart, Geraldine McEwan and newcomer Julianne Nicholson. This romantic comedy marks the American directorial debut of Hong Kong filmmaker Peter Chan.
