The famed Jack Kerouac book On the Road follows a beat writer as he recounts his wild journeys across the U.S. through his alter ego Sal Paradise. The stream of consciousness writing influenced a generation of writers and gave rise to the Beat movement. The film is produced by Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope, which has held the rights of the book since 1979. Walter Salles directs and adapts the script with his partner Jose Rivera.
