Based on a true story, Rock Star follows the lead singer of a cover band who is given the chance to front his all-time favorite heavy metal group. Mark Wahlberg will star with Jennifer Aniston in the film, which was written by John Stockwell. Stephen Herek is the director on the film which also stars Timothy Olyphant, Dominic West and Matthew Glave. Stockwell developed the Rock Star script from a 1997 New York Times article titled "A Metal-Head Becomes a Metal-God." The piece detailed a former office supply salesman who was recruited to play for Judas Priest after the band dumped one of its members. Rock Star will be produced under George Clooney's Maysville banner.
