The drama The Mill and the Cross is inspired by Pieter Bruegel's 1564 painting The Way to Calvary. Rutger Hauer, Charlotte Rampling and Michael York lead a dozen of the 500 characters in the painting depicting the passion of the Christ set in Flanders. Lech Majewski directed the film and co-adapted the script with Michael Francis Gibson, who author the book with the same title.
