The Smurfs franchise was no match for the newbie The Boss Baby [BOSSB], which retain the top of the weekend box office with an estimated $26.3 million. The DreamWorks animated film dropped 48% in its second weekend to bring its total to $89.4 million.
Beauty and the Beast [BTATB] held second place with $25.0 million to top $432.3 million after 4 weekends.
Smurfs: The Lost Village [SMRF3] debuted at the third spot with just $14.0 million.
Going out of Style [GOINS] took in $12.5 million to open in fourth place. The geriatric comedy skewed 53% female and 70% over the age of 70.
Ghost in the Shell [GSHEL] tumbled 61% in its second weekend to $7.4 million and fifth overall.
The Cast for Christ [TCFCH] opened with $3.9 million to round out the top 10.
Expanding wide in its second weekend, The Zookeeper's Wife [ZKPWF] earned $2.9 million.
