Sure, I get burned sometimes, but hitting 3/3 or 4/4 AND all the options is so much more satisfying than hedging. That having been said, it's not a strategy for everybody. When new players ask, I always tell them that shorting a put is the most efficient way to achieve negative cash. A 2$ profit in 2 weeks is an ok investment for my port.
Thanks for raising the question, I'm sure a lot of players don't think about the strategy behind their positions as much as you do, and I'll bet quite a few newer players learned something.
