HSX has said the reason they don't allow "stop loss" orders is because
It would lead to toooo much manipulation of stock prices... we'd ALL have stop loss orders set to go off if a price dropped 1 point, etc.. daytrading would turn into a nightmare.
So, limit orders are allowed as long as you make a profit on them, and NOT to help people prevent losses.
I use limit orders all the time after adjusts of opening weekends... they're VERY helpful when I've shorted a stock, and I'm not around to cover it when it drops a certain amount, so the "cover" limit order sells for me, and profits are still "locked in" to some degree...
But if HSX allowed us to limit our losses, chaos would follow with daytrading and all kinds of stock manipulation of prices... so to say they are worthless to you - perhaps.. but it protects the integrity of the data that HSX is selling with regards to stock prices...
