I generally expected some tentpole securities to dip at the conclusion of summer, for psychological and perhaps even structurally sound reasons, but the red plague appears to have begun blooming weeks ago, and I have been unable to identify a pattern. Some tentpoles are falling; others are not. Some franchises are faltering; others are not. Some long-range movies are sinking; others are not. Some sure-to-be-made securities are declining; others are not. Less solid movies seem to be maintaining their traditional, relatively predictable path, with the usual day-trader disruptions.
So why are so many portfolios sliding? (There have been several anguished messages indicating that the traders on my watchlist are representative; someone claimed that H$44 billion has evaporated, and the KaiGee charts reflect widespread limping.) What are the larger forces and or patterns associated with the recent bloodletting? How does this season's experience square with precedent?
Thank you, everyone, for considering or perhaps responding to these inquiries. Anyone who wants to discuss these issues is welcome to free brew at the Delta House. Even Omegas. Just this once.
And yes, we already checked with the guys at the Jewish frat. They said they don't know either.
