Thursday midnights have been creeping earlier and earlier. Originally, they were truly midnight, (12:01AM) and occured the next day, Friday. As the "Midnights" have been earlier and earlier, they have still been considered the next day. (IMHOP, all of these screenings are Thursday night, not Friday, but that is another conversation)
Enter Wal-mart. They paid 12M for special 7P M screenings. So we have a couple of questions.
1) Is the 12M received by WB for the tickets box office revenue? An important question for people whose contracts are based on percentages of gross. It seems that the answer is "Yes" ERC did count it.
2) Is 7PM Thursday or Friday? ERC has separated ths out as Thursday. The rest of the "midnights" were not separated out. But as it was reported as separate box office, the weekend was reported as 12M previous.
Thus, the correct formula is 2.7 * (Fri-Sun) + Previous. Hopefully, ERC will use this precedent in the future and there will be no confusion.
Does Opening Weekend calculations include sales (if any) from Thursday? Or just Fri-Sun? {nm} Jun 16, 10:04
