I use long range forecasts to determine an initial position, and watch for movement...
Then I start looking for marketing and advertising about a month out - and I talk to a LOT of people to see if they're aware of it. Plus, I have access to financial data most players don't, so I can see weekend to weekend projected discretionary spending of different demographics, so I use that to decide.
So, generally, 3-4 weeks prior to release I firm up a position, then look at projections and social media - I pick a final position 14-10 days before release, and it's usually unchanged from what it was a month ago.
Of course, we have some idea Friday early before a halt is the movie is performing as expected or something different and time to make adjustments before Saturday halt, but if I have to make a change then it's a$$ covering, because the OW der is already locked in.
