Why do you think it's pointless to short anything?
Why not simply short the relatively small number of wide releases scheduled to open in the near future? This would be quite safe because (a) it's clear that most theaters will remain closed for at least the next month, and (b) we've also already seen that the vast majority of prospective movie-goers remain very cautious about going back into indoor theater auditoriums for showings
IMO we'll have ample warning of any major turn in public sentiment in those regards, so need not fear being suddenly trapped in those short positions.
