I would pay to play...
Although my portfolio doesn't really show it, I've been playing HSX since almost the very beginning. I will miss it greatly, and would gladly pay $10 a month or so to keep doing it.
But unfortunately there is reality to deal with. And the reality is that most people on the intarwebs will only do things that are free. Take a look at the uproar over Hulu adding a new paid level. Or newspapers starting to charge. Besides, the very realistic side of me says that if people had been lining up ready to pay a fee, HSX would have already been charging.
