I made $1.3 million off of the Oscars, but I realized I could have made a lot more - regardless of who I picked to win if I had simply SHORTED every single option as soon as they were first offered at $10/ share.
Here's how:
SHORT 10 Best Picture Options at $10 - 20,000 shares each
Investment: $2,000,000
Return: $1,800,000 - (money lost from one winner) $300,000 = $1.5 million
In a 5 Option Category, the return would have been $ .5 million.
Multiply $ .5 million x 7 categories = $3.5 million
+ $1.5 million (Best Picture Category) = $4 million
Invest $7 million, and make a guaranteed $4 million profit.
Best Picture options may have been released at $5 - don't remember - but point stands. It's not exciting, pretty, or glamarous, but it's certainly free money.
