I guess Sony Pictures Classics bought "Midnight in Paris" cheaply, just like what they ususally did
Sony Pictures Classics bought "Midnight in Paris" after the box office disappointment of "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger", so Sony Pictures Classics might be able to ask for lower selling price.
Sony Pictures Classics are always able to buy higher budget films cheaply (ie. SPC paid $1 million to acquire the $14 million-budgeted film "Easy Virtue" and paid $0 to buy the $20 million-budgeted film "Synecdoche, New York" ). But many filmmakers still like to sale their films to Sony Pictures Classics, because Sony Pictures Classics tend to share the films' revenue with the filmmakers honestly.
