I re-checked with my friend who saw Drive at the festival. I asked "are you really sure it won't do well in the US?". It definitely won't,
he said. So, it'll be interesting to see. He said there was little dialogue and plenty of contemplative shots. Sometimes, or often, the thoughts of the characters are to be found in the mood of the scenes, coupled with the lyrics sung in the soundtrack. Interesting concept.
But again, Heat is my favourite heist-movie ever, it features contemplative shots, and it did well at the box office (even at its long running time). So, we're still gonna have to see whether my friend has any good sense about box office prospects. (And we did not discuss what benchmark he uses for doing well at the US box office. Most people do not have many thoughts about that, or working concepts.)
