i disagree. Not on the fact that serkis didn't give a stellar performance but...
as someone who is familiar witht he animation pipleline and the problems with motion capture I feel that the only way he should be recognized is if the supervising animators are also recognized. More often than not the motion capture data is completely redone or tweaked by animators who take his performance and tweak it to either make it work as intended or to improve upon it. Giving an oscar to the actor without recognizing the other 'actors' that have a hand in the performance is dismissing alot of hard work done by others to enhance the performance.
