... not in the same way that "Starship Troopers" did so mischieviously when it was made.

The original Star Trek esposed UN / reformed Enlightenment values, a search for something sunnier than colonialism with economic considerations kept off-stage, and the international violence of the Vietnam War repudiated.

But Republicans and so-called centrist democrats have a tepid take on the UN, and the attacks in London and San Francisco in the film are bloodless and squeamish; it seemed a little sad to me that Khan was spent in this way as the only kind of opposition current politics can imagine, a mad man.  I think a Khan who escaped into the wider universe would have been the play to make, rather than the scorched earth policy which let few or no new characters live, and never (ever?) villains.

TREK2 numbers are shocking. Sales numbers at our theaters are very, very strong. Like I said earlier, Saturday bump could be huge nilephelan May 18, 09:36

This seems contrary to everyone else's information below. {nm} elchan May 18, 09:40

please stop trying to manipulate the stockprice {nm} RazorHawk May 18, 09:46

Hard to manipulate a stock price when it is FROZEN {nm} nilephelan May 18, 10:26

I am thinking Star Trek is like the Republican Party as it only appeals to white men. LonePirate May 18, 09:46

dumb ass comment! {nm} lopreste May 18, 09:51

I know, right? It should have said "old white men" {nm} BSmurf May 18, 11:06

hahahahahah!!!! {nm} NOLEAFCLOVR May 18, 11:20

Isn't it ironic that TREK2 repudiates extra-judicial assassinations, drone strikes and pre-emptive war? second alanis May 18, 12:56

On that topic, did you notice TREK2 was dedicated to post 9/11 veterans? {nm} RogerMore May 18, 13:21

In the context of the 2009 movie, a police galactic neighborhood would be almost inevitable (Romulan time traveler destroying Vulcan). {nm} KalElFan May 19, 00:13

Think of TNG's "Yesterday's Enterprise" episode, which postulated a gap between the preferred future and a militarized police state. second gary May 19, 07:55

Thanks, but I'll take my chances elsewhere... {nm} slappydavid May 18, 09:48
