its not because of the kinds of movie. Studios needed to make up for lost dvd sales so they are more focused on international market

the filmmaking isnt "dumber". Layer that into a focus on tentpoles and shriking slates, and you get you get less risky filmmaking. and its paying off, so expect more of the same.Ā

The International Market taking off the way it was the last decade has really hurt the quality of the summer blockbusters. lhayes37 Jun 14, 12:44

more money, less risk in adaptations. What's it got to do with intl. market? DeanB Jun 14, 13:03

studios want big, stupid action movies that anyone in any country can understand without having to think too hard {nm} charlie Jun 14, 13:21

Yeah, Americans are much more smarter than the dumb international people!! billy Jun 14, 16:51

int'l box office amounts to 75% of a film's overall take v. the US now {nm} charlie Jun 14, 16:58

Oh yeah, looking forward to DUMB2, hope i understand the story of the movie... {nm} billy Jun 14, 16:53

He's not saying Americans are smarter. He's saying that Hollywood has to make movies that AREN'T ABOUT DIALOGUE.. jjmarino Jun 14, 20:22

but that has nothing to do with whether the movie is being based on something or not {nm} DeanB Jun 15, 01:05

sure it does. studios would rather greenlight an existing property like "Battleship" or "Monopoly" or "Slinky The Movie" and worry about charlie Jun 15, 13:18

Was Edge of Tomorrow based on a comic book? {nm} Oleg Max Jun 14, 13:11

In fact, it was "All You Need Is Kill." {nm} chosenone2005 Jun 14, 13:14

I knew it was based on All You Need Is Kill, so is source material a comic book? {nm} Oleg Max Jun 14, 13:32

its not a comic book {nm} Moviesnob Jun 14, 15:41

It's a "graphic novel." Which if you look at the panels and word bubbles on the pages, it does look eerily similar to a comic book.......... {nm} chosenone2005 Jun 15, 13:45

Super 8 deserves limited recognition, just thought of that one. {nm} lhayes37 Jun 14, 14:06

Honestly, I don't think it deserves any recognition. {nm} chosenone2005 Jun 15, 13:46

300 million people vs 6.7 billion population? {nm} mike255 Jun 14, 17:43

Have summer movies 2005-14 really been worse than previous decades? Houndowl Jun 15, 07:12

Then you're a neophyte to film. {nm} lhayes37 Jun 15, 13:46
